The challenges of starting and growing a psychotherapy practice
The knowledge and skills you need to establish, grow and maintain a rewarding private psychotherapy practice were not taught in my otherwise excellent graduate psychology education … and the same probably applies to you. This leaves you as a developing therapist with many unanswered practical questions and critical decisions…
- What kind of practice do I want to have?
- Should I take a more generalized approach and try to appeal to a broader range of potential clients or should I focus more and specialize in just a few areas?
- What about online versus in-person therapy?
- What are the most effective ways to market my practice, and to whom?
- How much should I charge my clients?
- Should I offer a sliding scale and/or do some pro-bono work?
- Should I join an insurance panel so that I can take insurance for payment?
- What is the value of joining a peer/consultation group with other therapists and how do I find one?
- What should I look for in renting and equipping my office space, or do I even need dedicated office space?
- How do I get a website built and promote it? Should I do it myself or hire a specialist to do it for me?
- And much more…
These are just some of the questions and decisions which my Therapy Practice Accelerator (TPA) services can help you address as you start, grow and maintain a rewarding private practice.

About me
I have been in private practice since 2004 and have built a successful and rewarding business in Marin County, California — an area with no shortage of competition, in fact, Marin has one of the highest densities of private practitioners of any county in the U.S.
In addition, I have been doing online counseling before most therapists realized it was an effective form of delivering their services.
I have mentored many new therapists as Interns or Associates for over 10 years and have learned to help others get started in their practices and become successful.
I created my Therapy Practice Accelerator services to help you get started and grow your own private practice by sharing the many lessons I have learned over the years.
